It is with great sadness that we have to report that Janet Folkes passed away on 17th January 2011 after a long battle with cancer.
Quietly Janet was probably one of the most inspirational and iconic balloonists of all time and definitely one of the cleverest. From setting up the Nottingham Balloon Club, breaking oodles of records, including the women’s gas balloon duration record, through to her tremendous skill as a visionary, very practical, scientist, she excelled. She lived life to the full and will be greatly missed by a huge number of people. Her smile will remain forever.
Janet’s funeral will be held on Friday 3rd February at 1200 midday at Holy Trinity Church, Bulcote, Notts, with cremation at the Mansfield Crematorium at 1400 and gathering after at the Wheatsheaf Inn Burton Joyce.
The family have asked that floral tributes be limited to family but that donations can be made to:
DJ Hall Funeral Directors, Verne House, 62 King Street, Southwell, Notts NG24 0EN where they will be distributed to the Breast Cancer Care Unit and Haywood House Hospice at the City Hospital, Nottingham.
Please feel free to forward the link below and encourage everyone to add photos, messages, ancdotes, paper clippings or general information so that the resulting information may form a book for Brian and the family.
