Welcome to Easy Balloons 06.06.13

Big hello and thanks for visiting the site. You may already be confused as its not a site just about balloons, well some is, but its more a broad mix of stuff that us and our friends are interested in. Having said that this time there are a few more bits about ballooning lurking about which we hope you enjoy. Primarily Easy Balloons is a Part M Subpart F&G Organisation looking after the continuing airworthiness of hot air balloons and through Wendover Trailers and the Balloon Repair Station (who live downstairs) mend bits that get broken from, amazingly, trailers to envelopes. Well just when it was all going so well the rain and wind hath returned. Never mind the trees are in leaf and summer is around the corner. Whatever a most warm welcome to you and thanks for visiting the site. Lurking about is a stack of Airworthiness information pertaining to balloons along with a rather puzzling mish-mash of articles and stuff that we hope you will find useful and entertaining. On the workshop front we have been away a fair bit grabbing the slots to carry out onsite inspections both at home and in Germany. More on the latest Germany trip coming soon. We are now back for a week or two no doubt trying to dodge the rain. In the news is a fuller update on the latest Cameron Flight Manual and a bit about dates on cylinders. Before any one else asks, yes our Alice is expecting and the nipper is due in July. Wit our Pete’s Alice (a different one) due imminently it seems the grandchild tally is rising steadily. Good, more trainee chimney cleaners.[more …]

Hi and a very warm finally spring-like welcome if this is your first visit to our rather eclectic site and thanks for returning if you have been here before. From miserable long faces and cloudy drizzly days we are now firmly spring-loaded. The grass is growing and things are now drying out. Woodworm has reared its ugly teeth again. I don’t know how many times its been mentioned (and we do to everyone with brown cane baskets) but woodworm really loves the big brown coloured cane in the bottom of Cameron baskets. They also have a taste for the smaller horizontally woven cane on occasions. These things are always relevant and in most cases the odd hole or small bit of localised stuff that resists a screwdriver will usually be fine. The odd floor cane can be replaced but get half a dozen nibbled away or the larger end canes then you are on to a non-winner. Prevention is simple. Give the basket a good annual dousing of woodworm treatment. A gallon will set you back about ten or twelve quid depending the brand you buy but any of the proprietory mixes will do. Rentokil or Ronseal are as good as anything. If you discover woodworm holes take a piccie or make a note of the damage and keep an eye on it. [more …]

Hi and a very warm welcome if this is your first visit to our rather eclectic site and thanks for returning if you have been here before. Last time I sat typing stuff out it was snowing now its lovely albeit windy. The dafs and crocuses are out and finally the spring crops are in. The workshop seems to be full of stuff and projects are starting to arrive. We are really delighted to welcome David Barker (en Francais), Pete Donkin and Dave Such to the gang, more about them in the news and contact details in the ‘Inspectors in the field’ bit. With a growing spread of inspectors who can issue ARCs on our behalf we can now offer our services over a much larger area. For our existing customers Jane and Alice have probably already sent out reminders about your inspection and any cylinders that need love but if not as we are now into the next ten year cycle for cylinders best check the Proof Pressure dates which should be engraved on the top (or bottom) rim or possible on a sticker on the body. Greetings (almost Christmas outside) and a very warm welcome if this is your first visit to our rather eclectic site and thanks for returning if you have been here before. The site is fast turning into a bi-weekly magazine these days but none the less this is primarily all about hot air balloon airworthiness matters with a lot of, we like to think, useful information here and there but despite being a Part M Subpart F & G Organisation we do have other interests as do our friends. We are currently in the process of adding another section relating to training which should be up and running in the next few weeks to make finding and instructor or examiner easier. On the article front we are just completing a couple of new ones which we hope will be of interest and should be up as soon as Barry the Boffin returns from delivering chaise-longues to Italy. This editions piccie is Alice’s Charlie being tutored by our John on the finer points of packing away. Now he’s getting too big to send up chimneys we’ve had to find something else for him to do. We’ll soon have on 410s. [more … ]

Welcome to you if this is your first visit and thanks for coming back if you’ve been around these parts in a previous life. Before you think you have come to the wrong site, despite Easy Balloons Ltd actually being a Part M Subpart F & G Organisation looking after airworthiness matters relating to hot air balloons in EASAland where you will naturally find all the general (and not so general) airworthiness stuff in the Pages down the side (which we keep updated along with details of balloon meets and the like), there are other very non-ballooning articles lurking here and there. A very warm welcome to you if this is your first visit and welcome back if you’ve been before. Here you will find a rather eclectic mix of stuff here no all of it relating to balloons. In short, and avoiding the nonsense, Easy Balloons Ltd is actually a Part M Subpart F & G Organisation looking after airworthiness matters relating to hot air balloons in EASAland so here you will naturally find all the general (and not so general) airworthiness stuff in the Pages down the side which we keep updated along with details of balloon meets and the like. Elsewhere are all sorts of varied articles on stuff we hope you enjoy that we have come across. In the latest news is a bit more stuff from the CAA and links to a couple of vids that are worth a look. The piccie this time round is Team Khaos somewhere over the Alps last week taken with Gaby Grunauer’s new super clever lens.

We have finally recovered from being snowed and iced in … [more …]
